We in the West also tend to look on Saudi Arabia as some sort of “moderate” Muslims because they are our economic partners and political allies. They practice a very fundamentalist form of Islam, but the USA accepts and tolerates it because they help support our interests in the region (at least over the short term).

But we blithely forget that fifteen of the nineteen 9/11 attackers were Saudis, or as initial news reports indicated “men with Saudi passports”.
