re: #167 DaddyG

When the religious right (to whom I am not sympatico) starts blowing people up because they didn’t get their religious code installed as the national law then there will be some not so magical balance to discuss.

I am no fan of the theocratic right and they are no friend to me (I’m not the right kind of Christian) but to my knowledge outside of Eric Rudolph and a few other isolated murderers there is no organized effort on behalf of a particular Christian group to overthrow the government by violence and force people to believe by threat of the sword.

The same cannot be said of the Taliban and Al Queda even though they do not represent the broader religion of Islam.

At the risk of getting into the middle of a religious argument, it’s worth pointing out that the Northern Ireland conflict was based in part on religion. Yes, I know it’s not the entire story, but I think it’s a very valid example of one christian group attempting to impose their religion on another group of people.

We all know that Christianity did a lot of their worst deeds before we were born. Because it happened before our lifetimes that makes it easier to excuse and ignore what happened, after all, it’s nothing anyone has direct experience with, right?

Totally unrelated, but in another 10 - 20 years, the Holocaust is going to start falling into the same memory hole. That horrifies and saddens me.
