I’m sorry to school someone with a PhD, Katie, but “you” and “they” have been used as a singular pronoun since the 1300’s. If you hate English so much, why do you keep using it?

Wasn’t she just responding to someone who insisted that the only proper pronouns for a person were “she”/”he” and basically objected to the use of “they”? So Dr. Mack was pointing out that “you” is used as both singular and plural — and that “thou” had been discarded. It sounded to me as though she was being supporting of those who want their personal pronoun to be “they”. This does seem to be separate from the TERF issue.
