re: #181 Mattand

From the tweet:

For fuck’s sake, we’ve been hearing about the death of the American Conservative movement for years.

They’re not. Going. Away. I do not understand why people refuse to believe this. As long as Americans have someone to scapegoat for all of their problems, Republicans and conservatives will always be a presence in American politics.

Why do people keep pushing this bullshit? Look at the alleged GOP civil war right now. Mike Pence literally could have been fucking murdered by a mob that Trump set loose on the Capitol, and he’s giving speeches saying the election was stolen.

Trump tried to have him killed for insufficient toadying, and Pence is somehow following in Jesus’s footsteps by crawling back to his attempted murderer.

Enough with the fucking conservative movement obituaries.

The repugs were on life support twice in the last century (after FDR and after Goldwater) and were saved both times by things that can’t be repeated now. Third time’s the charm.

Reducing the Republican party to a regional nuisance won’t end conservatism, but we can work on making it small enough to drown in a bathtub.
