I don’t think that’s correct. The reason was to create a citizen army or militia to protect us from foreign armies — namely the British and the Indians.

the Brits were both foreign and oppressive…the Indian angle is a stretch, never heard that one but I’m no expert in the Great Debate…I just aim and fire
