The GOP is simply turning into the latest periodic outbreak of Know Nothingism. It’s sort of like mumps for countries. The virus moves from country to country and periodically comes back around once a new generation has been born that hasn’t gotten resistance to that particular brand of cluelessness.

What makes it sad is their party’s founding father, Lincoln was a great champion of immigrants. But then again, they’ve been sounding more like the party of George Wallace and Jefferson Davis in recent years than Abe so I guess it’s not that big a stretch.
