Iran is too much of a logistic and geostrategic mess. Venezuela is at our doorstep and offers all the same advantages: installing a US-friendly regime that will supply us with oil, supplying us with bad guys (South American terrorist-socialists) and an excuse to close off our border with a Wall of Steel.

Also, a potential chance to cooperate with the newly-installed RWNJ President of Brazil.
