I’m not challenging your views on the necessity of armed defense— I certainly agree you sometimes have to fight— I’m pointing out that there isn’t any scriptural support for saying Jesus understood that sometimes you have to fight. The main thrust of what I was saying the other day is that if you read the New Testament, it’s very clearly an apocalyptic religion— that Jesus and his disciples believed that his coming heralded the quick end of the world— and that’s why Jesus’s commandments of how to live are so extreme: giving up all your wealth, just following him, making no resistance to violence except to flee, etc.

True. i guess the only reply to that that can be given would be to allow for that and then note that Jesus did say that he did not know when the end would come. Only God the Father knew that. Not really a counter, just a reply.
