The lottery is a tax, a regressive one that states are relying upon more and more as times get dire and people’s desperation grows.

No argument there. I stayed awake in math class, and when I go to Vegas each year for a Microsoft conference, I take some money for the tables, but it’s just entertainment. Problem is that most people have NO concept of how math and statistics work.
