As a kid, my mom convinced me to do the family laundry for years by instituting a rule: Whoever does the laundry gets to keep any change and one dollar bills they find in the process. (Larger bills had to be returned to the owner) This encouraged people to clean out their pockets before tossing your stuff on the laundry pile, and it made all the kids want to do laundry for money.

An excellent system I will use on my own kids one day.
