UK fighters were scrambled when a jet from Pakistan initiated a distress call.
A passenger jet from Pakistan bound for Manchester, England has been intercepted by two Typhoon fighter jets from Britain’s Royal Air Force after it sent an emergency radar signal to air traffic controllers, the U.K. Ministry of Defence said.
Defence officials said fighter jets had been scrambled but the reason for the emergency signal was not immediately known.
The U.K.’s Sky News reported that Pakistan International Airlines jet was being escorted because of a security concern, but the nature or severity of the incident was not clear.
