re: #187 Dr Lizardo

Fair enough, the FX improvements are noticeable and caught my attention in a couple of scenes.

The original RoboCop is, to me, one of the best films of the 1980s. It’s sequels weren’t as good by any metric. I generally tend to ignore RoboCop 2 and RoboCop3 (especially the latter) and just view the original as a stand-alone film.

Of all the Terminator films, my personal favorite is the 1984 original. T2 had groundbreaking VFX, no doubt about it and it deserves a great deal of recognition for that….but The Terminator stands out for its gritty, low-budget, almost guerrilla-style of film-making.

And with that, time to call it a day. Have a good one, Lizards and stay healthy.

It actually was guerilla-style film-making. Cameron’s crew were running on such a shoe-string budget that the reason the film was mostly filmed during the night was because they couldn’t afford the permits for filming during daylight hours. So most filming was basically “Ready. Action. Cut. Now…RUN BEFORE THE COPS GET HERE!” The one time they actually got caught by the cops, Cameron got them off in a totally awesome fashion: He told a massive lie. He said they were film-school students and weren’t aware they needed permits to film on-location. The cops bought it and let them off with a warning, which just goes to show how much of a practiced liar James Cameron is.
