I love how “liberal” Salon writes about Mormons in the language it would never use for Muslims or Jews.

Would they use it on Scientologists? Mormonism looks to be about halfway between the old religions and Scientology on the absurdity scale because its founding is too well documented.

It excluded blacks from priesthood, which was of course pure racism. Now, let’s see, how many female Catholic priests, rabbis or imams are there?.. Is misogyny any better?

Great point. We’re still giving religion a pass on sexism. I suppose religions will have to reform from within though. It’s pretty well established that we can’t regulate religious organizations like we do other businesses.
