Yeah, other countries get it, basic research is the engine of the future economy and solving the world’s problems.

Obama did mention the need for this in the US in his latest press conference, as well as his closing remarks in the final debate.

Also notable: Romney responded “Gov’t doesn’t create jobs” when Obama mentioned it, clearly defining him as the guy who’d be the one that was going to wreck the economy.

Not to mention the great need to work on our infrastructure, is also something that was created thru public works projects. How much R&D came out of WWII and NASA? both government programs. How much from the WWII and Korean Vets who got to go to college thru the GI Bill? Also, paid for thru tax dollars.

IIRC, the National Highway System and GI Bill came out of the Pentagon Budget. Perhaps that is where their funds need to go now.
