re: #192 Wendell Zurkowitz ((slave to the waffle light))
I got a Radio Shack stereo record player for Christmas of 1972. Cost my folks a whopping $159.99.
I immediately ran out with my Christmas money and bought Living in the Past by Jethro Tull, Close to the Edge by Yes and Trilogy by Emerson, Lake and Palmer.
Back in 1972, I was banned from listening to popular music by my grandparents.
My mother took me to see an Abrams Planetarium production of Issac Asimovās āThe Last Question,ā and one of the pieces of music they used was āRoundabout.ā
I managed to get my hands on my two first āpopular musicā LPās after that: Fragile and Weāre an American Band.
After that, my mother helped me undermine my grandparentās restrictions on records, helping me buy Cheech & Chong and George Carlin albums, along with all sorts of music including more Yes albums (and my mother hates Yes).
If it wasnāt for that Michigan State University production, who knows how my music taste would have turned out? /s
