Well, I believe you are overstating that point. The great (I) middle will lean either way very quickly. Of course, the (R) are in disarray now but its very early in the cycle of the game’s time clock.

Since neither thing is going to happen, I still think a new centrist/rationalist party could change the game within 2 decades. It would require some big names and big money to lay it on the line for the long haul, though.

I am quite unsure if a third party can ever emerge from the American political landscape. There is simply too much pressure to compete at the highest level. (8000 plus high paying patronage jobs…) A slow build up cannot succeed as political entropy assures us that every party eventually succumbs to the stupid therefore alienating the reasonable (I).

Sadly, I think we are stuck with a two horse race.
