That wasn’t part of the question and answer though. D_F’s attitude is one of a military hawk, something I have trouble understanding, although I suspect it’s based on fear of others, something once useful in an evolutionary sense but maladaptive now.

I would say, more like based on irrational, illogical, clung-to beliefs about others.
