re: #196 lawhawk

Some folks in NY, like Fred Dicker, have been slamming the SAFE act and Gov. Cuomo for losing jobs as Remington firearms looks to build a new factory out of the state.

Except that Remington is expanding operations, they aren’t shuttering the NY factory. They’re opening a new factory in Alabama because of increased demand. So, the critics are now spinning this as a lost jobs opportunity because of SAFE.

For Remington this makes sense because they’re moving their production much closer to where demand is.

Remlin? Increased demand? I find that hard to imagine as their QC has fallen like a rock since they were bought by Freedom Group and even more so since Marlin was added. The last new Remington I looked at was unsafe to shoot as it was, new in box. I don’t know anyone right now who is buying post 2009 Remlins.

As or Alabama, right to exploit = low wage cost, minimal education standards & lack of infrastructure due to low tax base? Not as bad as Mississippi (they still have the history of Redstone to inspire some attempt to be in the 1st world), but I’ll certainly never want to buy anything mass produced at that facility.
