re: #197 Decatur Deb

An old white male Alabama politician who is not an asshole:

“We need to call this bill what it is. We need to call it what Pat Roberston said it is - extreme. It is the most extreme abortion ban in the country, and it is in my view a product of what happens when you so gerrymander political districts that people don’t have to be accountable to extreme sides of an issue,” the senator said. “This bill uses rape victims and victims of incest of all ages, even minors, as political pawns.”

They exist, y’all.

Yes, they do. I gotta say how objectionable I’m finding this repeated argument however. (Not directed at you DD or even this senator, just in general.) I understand why the OMG-more-torture-for-rape-and-incest-victims is being made to up the horror factor because it does emphasize the point. My objection is that this is THE argument, the seeming heart of it, which makes me ask the question:

Why is it that women are only deserving of bodily autonomy and agency AFTER we’ve been used and abused by men?
