Gulags, please! I’ve been over this before. There won’t be re-education camps or gulagi here; maintenance and logistics.

Thanks to the communication revolution, it’s possible now to simply inter the entire population in a sort of virtual prison. Why put up barbed wire when you can instead cover the prisoners with a fine mesh of interlocking rules, regulations, and bureaucratic restrictions? Why put folks to busting rock when you can instead find the highest and best (and therefore highest value) use for them in their current careers, and instead so distort and skew the economy as to make of them slaves who work to pay for the privilege of their captivity?

Far more efficient will be the gulag state of the future.
