Alex Jones *would* count as one of the rational ones in the freakshow that is the Russian power under Putin.

Normal approaches do *not* work here. Soviet leaders were autocratic but mostly rational (if impulsive, like Khrushchev) in the sense of the worldview. The current crop explores the murky depths of religious fundamentalism mixed with occultism mixed with general superstitious supernaturalism, all of this with a pinch of nihilistic postmodernism.
