Contempt hearing against Arpaio begins

It’s Sheriff Joe Arpaio versus a federal court judge. Today Arapio’s civil contempt hearing begins. U.S. District Court Judge Murray Snow *could* end up recommending criminal charges for Arpaio, if the judge chooses to go that route.

The judge is deciding what will happen to the Sheriff for disobeying his orders to put a stop to immigration operations that date back to 2011.

Several witnesses are expected to testify that the civil rights of Latino citizens has been violated.

A former U.S. attorney says he’s never seen anyone charged with criminal contempt and he isn’t ruling anything out.

So far testimony has shown Arpaio told his staff to disregard the court orders, failed to implement training he was ordered to conduct, continued to target minorities, and had his officers investigate the Judge and his family.
