We live in a democracy. So, the decision about what is allowed or what isn’t is ours. Under our Constitution, that decision is left up to each of the states. As with abortion, I don’t see the Federal government having a thing to say about the matter. I don’t consider this slope to be slippery because of the sensible resistance provided by those who don’t wish to travel down it much beyond the types of cases that most of us consider reasonable. The answer to “who decides?” is WE DO.

So yes, objections because one is afraid that some day we will condone assisted suicide for anyone who feels the blues is a red herring.

I don’t know where to begin with that.

Assisted suicide will result in the murder of the inconvenient. The fact that “chronic depression” was mentioned in the linked article’s lede is what makes some of us prick up our ears; particularly those of us who have experienced it. If you can’t see the danger, you can’t. It’s a failure of logic and extrapolation.

When assisted suicide is the subject, not every fish is a red herring.
