My dad hates the Clintons with the heat and fire of a thousand suns. Last time I checked in about two weeks ago he said he was voting for Gary Johnson.

I don’t talk politics with my father anymore. Now that he knows that I’m voting for Hillary Clinton the subject is verboten.

Johnson may not be Clinton but at least he’s not Trump?

I don’t actually talk politics with my dad. I didn’t realize before this how much both my parents were raised Republican (I knew that about my dad, but not so much my mom). I was raised politically neutral - we didn’t really talk about it. I wasn’t ignorant of what was happening, but my parents taught me values, not party lines.

Which is probably why I’m so liberal, because the values were “care for other people” and “treat other people as humans” and not “tax cuts for yourself before anything else.” (Slight snark there. Slight.)

(Also apparently I need to somehow get this memo to my grandparents, because my mother is in trouble for the fact that we have grown up so liberal. Hah, if anything I made sure my sisters turned out as reasonable human beings. I’M AT FAULT GRANDPA. But I have my mother’s permission to send back Snopes links to my heart’s content.)

((My dad’s parents are dead, which spares me a lot of heartache this election season. I am sadly grateful.))
