There’s a handful that are net positive on paying more in federal taxes than getting back. Texas is the exception, as most GOP controlled states get far more than they give. And those federal transfers mean that the states can artificially keep their taxes low, while the blue states have to demand more of their residents to cover costs.

It’s more than just that thought. The transfer is from blue to red states in general, but even within states money goes from the urban areas to rural areas in most cases.
