N.T. Wright seriously proposes - as a “scholar”, not as a theologian - that the best historical explanation of the alleged empty tomb and the alleged post-mortem appearances of Jesus is … the resurrection. Color me surprised.

Now, I don’t object to anyone believing in anything, I certainly don’t object to theologians defending the resurrection. But as theologians, not as alleged scholars. One can make a leap of faith and say that yeah, this shows us that Jesus rose from the dead.

One cannot say that “the best historical explanation … [is that] Jesus was indeed seen alive, because he was truly raised from the dead”. Such conclusions are outside of the realm of history. I must therefore conclude that Wright is a hack, if not worse.
