The erosion issue is most acutely felt in the storm season - especially following landfall of hurricanes and other severe storms that routinely come through. It causes mudslides, washes away soil that would be useful for farming, etc.

So far, cruise lines haven’t adjusted their itineraries yet - some schedule stops in Labadee, located about 100 miles from the epicenter of the quake. Much of the money spent by tourists doesn’t really make it beyond the tourist village set up to receive the tourists - and that’s a shame (and a problem at other ports of call like Belize or Isla Roatan), which remain crushingly poor despite all the money spent by the tourists who come in on day trips.
