re: #205 HappyWarrior

THe problem is I don’t see any possible candidate making any real inroads with the Latino community. Bush, I will say had an unique gift in that he understood and spoke Spanish, has an immigrant for a sister in law,and as an oilman and baseball owner no doubt met and understood the experiences of more Latinos than your average Republican.

The thing about presidential elections is that, in the early days, any predictions are subject to serious revision. There can be candidates in the wings that nobody’s considered, scandals that might sink one campaign but elevate another, real world events that change voter priorities, and so forth.

As pointed out above, in ‘07, Hillary was considered the mark to beat. She had political strength, she had a hefty warchest, she had all the sorts of inroads that were considered unbeatable. A lot of folks that I talked to said that Obama, if he got anywhere, it might be as the VP. That ‘08 wasn’t going to be his year, just a bullet point on his resume for a future run.
