OK, I think I understand your point, technically speaking. Unfortunately however those who invented the term “fundamentalist” 100 years ago (I take your word for that) shot themselves in the foot as far as many non fundamentalists are concerned (or atheists) because they did not define it as a principle of fundamentals, like love your neighbor and respect everyone else; they made it a stupid literal interpretation of the word of god written thousands of years ago in (modern) English.
