What I found interesting is that not of all sermons represent de Sade’s view straightaway. E.g. he was an atheist, but one of his baddies tries to argue at length that a Creator is necessary, perhaps an evil one. He is then countered by Juliette, AFAIR.

I’ve seen Salo, and I guess it’s the closest one could come to making a film out of any of de Sade’s works without slipping into porn. And even if one allows for porn, de Sade is basically unfilmable.

I quite agree that de Sade is essentially unfilmable, which is why I give Pasolini the credit I do for his film. Hell, even if an adult film production company decided to shoot the works by making a big-budget version of, let’s say, Justine, I get the feeling it would never be shown in cinemas, and it’s sale on DVD or Blu-Ray would likely be banned in several countries for its extreme and violent pornography.
