I asked my Dad, who is from Melrose MA, if his Dad every had issues with the politics of his time. To which my father told me that his father hated FDR for his socialism and Joe Kennedy because he was a bigger crook than Jim Curley. So I feel your pain..

He and my grandfather would have gotten along beautifully.
