People really suck when it comes to nuts and bolts politics and knowing how things actually work in government.

Just add the minimum wage and override the parliamentarian. Pressure Sinema and Manchin to approve. Wave a wand and get everything you want.

That’s not how it’s done. That’s not how any of this works, but that’s not stopping people from claiming that Biden can just get pressure Sinema and Manchin and get to 50 on the relief bill and that Harris can just hand wave the parliamentarian’s objections on the minimum wage. There’s a whole lot of Jedi mind tricks here that people think can happen to get it to done.

Right, because what’s the strategy after that? Show your work and explain how you get both Sinema and Manchin to flip on the minimum wage hike. Show how you get past the objection. Show that you have the votes.

And then what happens to the rest of Biden’s agenda? Because Biden made it clear that the minimum wage hike isn’t part of his agenda to get relief done.

Thing is, I do agree we need the minimum wage hikes and that Sinema and Manchin are wrong, but there’s a lot else at play, including Cabinet confirmations, judicial confirmations, and even 2022 elections that have to be in consideration here. You can’t just take a narrow view - you need big picture, but those who are demanding everything dump into the relief bill think that this is the one shot.
