I saw a report yesterday that truckers actually thought they could detour around by way of Independence Pass and were getting stuck. How stupid do you have to be to try that without taking a good long look at the map and realizing it was not only not a truck route, but they weren’t likely to make it?

All the backroads (Crooked Creek Pass, Hagerman Pass, Cottonwood Pass) to get through are closed. Too many yahoos with passenger cars and no experience trying to drive them and getting into accidents. I hear the roads are trashed.
