It would also, really, if technically adopted, mean that they’d have to do a billion other things, like figuring out what their real death rate was. If every fertilization is a human being, and about 40% of fertilized eggs either fail to implant or spontaneously abort, then there is an enormous death rate to be accounted for there. And if it’s a person, then I guess it’s a child, and the laws applying to child abuse fit. If it’s not, then a whole new slate of laws have to be crafted to care for it. If it’s not legal to abort, then surely it’s not legal to endanger it’s life with drinking, smoking, exercise, etc.
