Speaking of iconic Japanese anime, I watched the entirety of Neon Genesis Evangelion (TV series) last week. (It’s on Netflix.) I watched about five minutes of it dubbed, then the rest subbed.

Sub vs. dub, the unending battle. If you managed to fight your way through End of Evangelion, I salute you and don’t worry, it wasn’t meant to make sense. Just money.

I tried to get into Cowboy Bebop last year, but uhm, not yet?

Ehhh. Fun once but overrated in my opinion. The whiny bitch-ass character who goes around moping and being uncommunicative while his partners are getting shot up because of his Daaark Hiiistory is a noir movie trope they could have done without. Great intro music, decent soundtrack and stylish animation drags it out of the pit of mediocrity, live-actioning this series is a big leap for the remakers.

If you want total bonkers brainfuck anime, Fooly Cooly aka FLCL, original series with music by The Pillows. There is a storyline in there, really. It’s just not the storyline you expect.
