You would think that the people would rise up, but his thugs have done a good job of controlling the streets and blocking the opposition from unifying in a way that would take him down. It’s the same problem that Zimbabwe finds with Mugabe; Mugabe wont let go of his power, even if there are golden parachutes in place. These guys are thugs first and foremost, and will say and do anything to remain in power no matter how destructive and corrosive their politics and economics are.
