My late husband was a TV addict, and I do mean addict. It was pathological. He couldn’t stand for the TV to ever be off. He would sit and fidget, pace, and get increasingly agitated until he could turn it on. It was pretty terrible to live with and probably one reason I watch so little TV today.

The same kind of tv watching culture is endemic here in the UK too with a lot of people. The TV must be on at all times regardless of whether there is anything on that anyone actually watches. A death in the family would be about the only thing that would qualify as an exception.
