I doubt his deputies have a union, and he can probably fire them at will. It should be an OSHA safety violation during a pandemic, but it probably isn’t.

There is still a certification process to become a sheriff’s deputy in Florida. It’s not quite so simple to simply fire them and replace them.

That said, if you need the pay because conservatives would rather force everyone to work than just sit out for three weeks because that will cost their donors money, it’s tough to walk off the job.
