I’ve had (and continue to have) long talks with God about homosexuality.

The fact is in, Jesus’ time, there was no such thing as a healthy, public same sex relationship. There’s also some question as to whether or not the scriptures that reference homosexuality are actually talking about it directly or using the term as a placeholder for perverse sexual behaviors. In addition, the English translation of the scriptures themselves is not flawless because there are some words and syntax from Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic that just don’t translate directly.

Obviously all of us know there are plenty of perverse sexual behaviors that are bad and have nothing to do with homosexuality.

So, I choose to follow Jesus’ command to love everyone and take care of them. I have a gender fluid niece who is going through a lot of crap right now and I’ve told her my home is a safe place for her. She will not be judged, she will not be insulted or demeaned. She’ll be clothed, fed, sheltered and respected.

Because I think that’s what Jesus would want me to do.
