re: #205 Bagua

But I’m not just being cute here. Consider that Ludwig has said that it is possible millions will die from AGW, many of which are not yet born, which is why we are concerned. Yet the WHO states that 6.2 million die every year from tobacco, which is projected to rise to 15 million annually if trends continue. They also estimate 100 million people have already died. We are talking about hundreds of millions dying horribly by the end of the century.

Unless someone denies science, how can they fail to be alarmed by the certain threat of Tobacco?

Not a good comparison. One is a personal choice, the other is collective.

The first is also a statistical issue, not a certainty, fairly well documented and the WHO statistics if taken at face value suggest that everyone would live 100 more years if they didn’t smoke, when in reality many of them would die the same year from causes that would have been attributed to smoking, had they been smokers. EG. Cancers, heart attacks, strokes, etc.

The second, AGW, is collective and nothing an individual alone can do anything about. A whole different kettle, not to mention statistical uncertainties within our lifetimes at least.
