I know a KZ guard (won’t give name out of respect). He was never prosecuted after the war because he got a job in the US Marines and even served in Korea and got the Purple Heart!!!
He has his entire WW2 uniform set: hat, ribbon bar, KVK 1 without swords, Silver DRL Sports Badge, silver, wound badge, tunic with all insignia, pants, boots, dagger, Luger pistol, belt, etc. I have no idea how he got it all here, though. I’ve been trying to milk items off of him for years now and he just laughs at he saying I should be into sports. He once showed me a photo of him wearing his US Korean War medals and WW2 German medals. I thinks he’s proud to have served in US and Germany. Just to let you know, he claimed that he DID NOT commit any war crimes. He was in the Das Reich Waffen SS until he got his legs shot up by a machine gun and went to serve at a KZ (I won’t say which one also out of respect). He brought the people into the camp and made sure that no one escaped. When I asked him if he had ever killed anyone he said that he did, but only when he had to. Then he started getting really upset and changed the topic. The most info I got from him was that he made sure that everyone got from the train into the camp and that no one escaped, he had his legs shot up in Poland before he had shot two Poles at a machine gun, and he did kill Koreans and was injured by a grenade fragment. He is very patriotic, both to the US and Germany, and belongs to both veteran organizations for the SS and US armed forces. As far as I know is in OK health. I have not seen him though since my birthday in late March.
