re: #218 TarHellion

There are, I think, two options at hand:

1) Trump and his team may try, but they canā€™t play the moral high ground. For any woman who may make an accusation against Biden we can find a couple of dozen who will do so with Trump, with even cruder actions on Trumpā€™s behalf. While the Trumpers will deny this, the rest of the electorate can see it. So I guess Biden doesnā€™t really need to address the allegation if he wants to play hardball and start dumping the dirt on Trump.

2) Biden is already the not-Trump for anyone who are not hard core right wing god talkers (and their maniacal masters in the monied class.) However, if in a couple of swing states the allegation of Reade makes a difference with independent female voters, the Biden should go to those states and talk to the voters (not astroturf goons) who seem to be bothered and make a statement.

Notice how I didnā€™t even bother to address any objective moral qualms one may have with inappropriate behavior on Bidenā€™s part. I am now so cynical that I see that Trumpā€™s triumph over the religious right, in moving their supposed Christian fundamentalism to a more out-of-the-closet Christian nationalism, that I think there is no constructive public dialogue be had in regards to morals.

Let me repeat that: The US (as far as public politics is concerned) is now so corrupted by the last few years of Trump that there is no real moral discussion. All that remains is tribal warfare.

Does that mean I think there is no actual morality in a society? No. Itā€™s just that I think one canā€™t really make any changes at this late stage in the 2020 election because I believe, sparing any further revelations that are such a magnitude that they can steal the national discussion away from Covid-19 for the remaining 6 months until the election, that the election now is pretty much over (Biden will win, which is why the GOP analysts have advised GOP politicians to not campaign on defending Trump.)

And given the pandemic is, well, a pandemic that has already taken almost 60k lives in the US and by November that will be much larger, any additional revelations in regards to either Biden or Trump would have to be damn large to make a difference come election day. And Iā€™m not expecting such a thing.
