An official good morning to the Lizard Community.

No Philly weather report today since I’m using an interior room today with no windows. Redeeming feature is close access to the coffee and water dispensers.

Expanding my IT knowledge today with more jack-of-all-trades work. Since there are office moves going on, and all the tech support people are in another city doing a network conversion, I got tasked with troubleshooting network connection issues here.

So I get to run around every so often this week to figure out why a computer can’t access the network after being moved. Including the odd, almost quantum-like, behavior of network switch cables. A cable that works between the switch and a certain data port fails to work when changed to a different port. Use a different switch cable to the port and things work. Then check the faulty cable with a third port - and it works.

I normally work with databases and application security. My hardware training is minimal beyond knowing the basics of hooking various devices up.

Need. More. Coffee.

Network stuff sucks. Even more stinky is connectivity across the network between clients and servers, as I am dealing with that right now. Have I mentioned before how much I @#$@! hate @#$#@ @#$@$#! @W#$R%@#!@ QUICKBOOKS!
