US politics is not going to be left vs. right for the foreseeable future. It is going to be the sane vs. the barking mad. We get the extinction level event if the Republicans get full power while they are still barking mad.

To be honest, I am terrified of the nativist trade/economy creature that Trump and Sanders have helped to unearth. It’s awfully hard to articulate in a brief sound bite why the industrial economy of the postwar era is never, ever coming back, and there are still a whole bunch lot of folks who fondly remember those days.

I absolutely think a charismatic, well-spoken “compassionate conservative” could peel off basically the entire midwest if he or she (lol: he) were able to massage the message into a form the Kochs would sign off on.
