I’ll say this again. Autism doesn’t create assholes. Yes there are people with autism who are assholes. But they would have been assholes anyway without the autism. If anything, every autistic person I’ve ever met is more empathetic to other people, not less. It’s just the communication and social skills aren’t there to express it they way others do. More than a few people use the excuse of “being on the spectrum” to pardon their bullshit. We have to stop letting them get away with it.

People on the spectrum have a tough enough time dealing with stereotypes like this one, can we stop perpetuating those? My son is suffering as a direct result of these sort of misconceptions, it’s difficult and heartbreaking. He’s not retarded, not without empathy, not blind to the needs of others. If anything he’s so starved for approval he’ll put up with more shit from people than is healthy. Predatory assholes like CCJ are the kind of people that have made my kid’s life hell, he doesn’t get to use autism as an excuse for that too. Fuck him.
