I was in Middle School at the time, so I wasn’t aware of that particular reasoning.

However the rest of the point still stands. That just means we strictly control who goes in and out. And get the Turks and Kurds to come along. They would ameliorate the difficulty.

Something needs to be done, on a moral level at least. Also, do we want this destabilizing the region? Likely not.
