Re redistricting:

Before we had computers this couldn’t be done, but the fair way to do it is this:

If a state has a population p and a congressional representation n, then start in the center of the largest municipality and expand a circle until it takes in p/n people. Then the second largest municipality and so on. Soon the circles will run into each other and become lopsided, but it can’t be any weirder than the gerrymandered districts we’ve got now.

Of course, the GOP will never go for this, because it gives the most votes to areas with the most people, and we can’t have that.

Seriously, the only other alternative would be voting for at-large congressmen divided into groups alphabetically or something.
