So, Google and Apple have rolled on to their backs and pissed themselves for the Putin government. They have censored lists of registered candidates for the ongoing Duma elections after being threated by police goons, pulled the smart voting app from the stores, and allowed the pro-government forces to upload a fake smart voting app. YouTube is taking down smart voting videos, while allowing RT and other pro-government propaganda mills to post whatever they feel like (and recommend them to me, yeah thanks).

Apparently Apple’s response has been to cite the Russian government’s crap about interference in elections and extremism. The smart voting resources are just lists of approved, registered candidates that would minimize the power of United Russia, the core Putinist rubber stamp. So, if you think Google’s and Apple’s pious bloviating about privacy are going to help you against a hostile state, uh, no.

So much for “don’t be evil.”
