Again, my use of “net” was to distinguish most people’s income (salary) from business revenue, which was a source of confusion above.
It’s pretty clear that, when Obama was outlining his tax plan back in 2009 (?), this was what he had in mind: people who have reported household incomes, before tax, of $250K or more. That’s what the WaPo article I linked suggested, anyway (though it’s a bit more precise, with brackets defined at $236K and $378K).
Quite why people then started throwing in small businesses with turnovers of $250K, as if that was relevant to the discussion, is a mystery.
