When I make mac and cheese from a box for my son, I like to ask if he wants to get used to the broke college student version with a can of tuna and a handful of frozen peas or green beans tossed into the mix. He doesn’t seem to think its a good idea.
I still make a one pot hotdish for myself of stovetop stuffing, canned chicken, a canned veggie and gravy. It’s not high cuisine but it’s easy, cheap and edible.
